Congratulations! You’ve made it to your second set of yoga poses. If you’ve been practicing along with my first video for beginners, you may be ready to move on to more poses. I’m also introducing some breath work, aka pranayama, as this is a vital aspect of yoga. Let’s take a look at the second set of poses.
In this second pose set, we will cover the following:
- Pranayama – Breath-work (3 part breath)
- Prasarita padottanasana – Wide-legged forward fold
- Virabhadrasana 1 – Warrior 1
- Parivrtta trikonasana – Revolved triangle
- Dandasana – Staff pose
- Baddha konasana – Butterfly or Cobbler’s pose
It is important to remember that your body always comes first. The one rule in my lessons is to listen to your body, and if something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it! If you are stuck or confused during the process, I recommend you find a teacher who understands your needs. Personalized instruction will give you a solid foundation and make it much easier for you as a beginner. Feel free to reach out to me about private lessons.
No matter how long you’ve been practicing, there is always something new to experience in yoga. As long as we remain open and humble about the process, there is no limit to what we can learn from our practice. We all have days when we feel like we are moving backward, but even on those days, something incredible can happen if we remain open-minded and patient with ourselves.
Next, in this basic beginner series, I will share a standing pose sequence, which combines all of the standing poses we have learned so far, plus more. A sequence is a great way to build up endurance and train your memory. I look forward to sharing those poses with you!
Stay mindful,
Emily
