Corrective Exercise

Restore balance in your body.

Do you ever experience discomfort or aches that just won’t go away?

Have you lost the ability to participate in activities you used you love?

Corrective exercise might be for you. This type of exercise starts with an assessment to determine your current musculoskeletal imbalances. We then bring alignment back to your body with self myofascial release, stretching, and strengthening. Here are a few examples of how corrective exercise can help you:

  • Improve posture
  • Increase resilience to injuries
  • Release muscle tightness
  • Reduce pain
  • Build mobility and functional strength

Corrective exercise sessions may look easy from an outside perspective. You won’t be jumping around or lifting heavy weights. However, you will spend a lot of effort on relaxing and activating the appropriate areas of your body. This type of exercise is designed to help keep you free from pain and injury while allowing effortless movement in your favorite activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is self myofascial release?

Self myofascial release (SMR) is a form of self massage. “Myofascial” refers to the connective tissue surrounding your muscles. Just like other tissues of the body, fascia can be unhealthy and cause pain and limitations in movement.

Do I need any equipment?

Corrective exercise equipment is minimal and generally inexpensive. I recommend having a foam roller, exercise ball, tennis ball, golf ball, and lacrosse ball. A heating pad or even a hot water bottle can also come in handy! There are plenty of gadgets you can purchase if you wish, but start with the basics and we can chat about what else may be appropriate for your needs.

How many sessions will I need?

While many clients feel a positive change in just 1-2 sessions, the number of sessions needed to restore alignment in your body will depend on several factors. The extent of your starting imbalances, your dedication to your exercise homework, and lifestyle choices can impact how many sessions you may want to plan for. My goal is to empower you with a set of exercises you will be able to return to on your own when needed.
